Type Of Instruction

Private Instruction

One-on-one instruction maximizes the learning experience and assures rapid progress. By offering a customized curriculum with personalized interactive instruction, teachers can guide students to focus on areas that they need to work on allowing them to acquire a stronger more expeditious command of the language.

Semi-Private Instruction

Two students are assigned to one teacher. The students have similar language needs and are at the same fluency level. The dynamic between the students, facilitated by the teacher, creates an atmosphere for quick absorption of the target language.

Group Classes

Three or more students who are at the same fluency level. Group classes allow teachers to plan and execute activities and exercises that focus on student to student interaction with an emphasis on the immediate use of the language in a setting that is conversational and enjoyable. Many students prefer group classes because of this.

Intensive Program

Designed for students needing to learn a language as quickly as possible. Daily classes are scheduled to ensure a successful acquisition of the language. Ideal for those who are being sent abroad to work or those whose jobs require a second language. The duration of the program depends on the proficiency level the student enters with and needs to acquire.

Course Levels

From beginner to advanced, the goal of ILC, whether in individual classes or in groups, is to work with you on your specific needs, learning style and general interests. Courses are designed to be both informative and fun. Our teachers are trained to create an environment that fosters learning, but in a way that is interesting and relevant.

Beginner Level Courses

This level includes Beginner 1 and Beginner 2.

Beginner 1: Designed for students who are new to the language with an emphasis on simple phrases, grammar basics and vocabulary. The goal is for students to develop confidence in basic communication.

Beginner 2: A bit more advanced, but at a pace that will allow students to learn and maintain simple conversations, expressing their ideas in the past, present and future tenses.

Intermediate Level Courses

This level includes Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2.

Intermediate 1: Building off of the simple conversational level, students will increase their communication skills by engaging in conversation on various subjects. These subjects can be areas of personal or cultural interest, depending on need.

Intermediate 2: At this level, students will start to focus on effectively structuring sentences that will allow them to begin writing in their new language; more detailed grammar exercises will be integrated into the curriculum, again based on need (business or pleasure, for example).

Advanced Level Courses

This level includes Advanced 1 and Advanced 2.

Advanced 1: The emphasis here is placed on student fluency. Students will be run through a series of activities and exercises that enhances their language skills, vocabulary (including phrasal verbs and idioms) and, most importantly, pronunciation. Professional fluency, if necessary, is reinforced.

Advanced 2: Increased practice of communication skills, receptive (listening and reading) as well as productive (speaking and writing) are reinforced. At this level, students can focus on correcting recurrent errors and reducing accent to a minimum. By now, you will be confident in your new language skills and will be able to understand sophisticated literature and conversation, both professional and informal.
